How switching works
Switching supplier is safe, free and usually takes about five working days. Your gas and electricity keep flowing through the same pipes and wires; only the company that bills you changes.
- Get a quote and sign up (about five minutes). You’ll need your postcode and, ideally, your annual kWh from a recent bill.
- Confirm by email and set up your Direct Debit. We take nothing until your first bill.
- We do the rest. We tell your current supplier you’re leaving; you don’t need to call them.
- Switch day, typically five working days later, or a later date if you choose one. Smart meters send the opening reading for us; otherwise we’ll ask you for one.
- Final bill from your old supplier within six weeks, with any credit refunded to you by them.
Our switching promise
- Your supply is never interrupted.
- You can cancel within 14 days of confirming, for free.
- If you’re on a fixed tariff with someone else, check their exit fee first. We’ll tell you if switching in the last 49 days of your fix would avoid it.
- If a switch goes wrong because of us, such as switching the wrong meter, we put it right and pay you £30 automatically.
- If you owe your current supplier money on a prepayment meter, you can usually still switch if the debt is under £500.
Moving into a new home?
You’re supplied by whoever supplied the previous occupant, on their “deemed” contract, until you choose. You can switch to us straight away and there’s never an exit fee on a deemed contract. Moving home.
