About Brightwell
We started Brightwell in 2025 because we’d seen, from the inside, how energy suppliers can let their customers down: by under-hedging, by hiding behind phone menus, and by treating loyal customers worse than new ones.
Our story
Hannah, Tom and Priya met in 2023 at a Bristol meetup about home batteries. We set Brightwell up in January 2025 and took our first homes on supply in October 2025, starting with friends, neighbours and colleagues around Bristol, and opened to all of Great Britain in February 2026.
How we’re different
- Same prices for new and existing customers. No teaser rates and no loyalty penalty.
- Careful hedging. We buy most of the energy our fixed customers need when they sign up, so a fixed price is a price we can keep.
- Credit balances kept separate from our working capital.
- People, not phone menus. Our customer team is in Bristol and answers in under two minutes on average.
- Electric homes first. Tariffs, meters and support built for heat pumps, cars, batteries and solar.
Team
Hannah Okafor
Co-founder and Chief Executive
Hannah spent nine years in pricing and wholesale risk at two UK energy suppliers, and led a pricing team through the 2021–22 crisis, when around thirty suppliers failed. She started Brightwell to build a supplier that hedges carefully and earns its customers’ trust slowly.
Tom Rennick
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer
Tom built smart-meter data and EV smart-charging platforms at a Bristol energy-technology company. He runs Brightwell’s billing, metering and tariff systems.
Priya Raman
Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer
Priya ran customer operations for a 300-person fintech in Bristol and volunteered as a Citizens Advice debt adviser for six years. She leads our customer and field teams.
Ellie Brannigan
Head of Trading
Ellie joined from a European energy trading house, where she managed hedging for retail supply portfolios.
Martin Achterberg
Non-executive Chair
Martin was finance director of a regional water company and has sat on the boards of two energy networks.
Backers
We’ve raised £14.2m: a £3.2m seed round in February 2025 and an £11m Series A in May 2026, both led by Severn Climate Ventures, with Northlight Impact Partners and the Wessex Angels syndicate. A European energy trading house provides the credit support behind our hedging.
