Meter readings and smart meters
Your electricity meter is identified by its MPAN, the 13-digit number in the S-shaped box on your bill (the first two digits show your region). Your gas meter is identified by its MPRN, usually 6 to 10 digits.
Smart meters
If you have a working smart meter (SMETS2, or SMETS1 that has been moved to the national network), it will keep sending readings to us after you switch. You can choose monthly, daily or half-hourly readings in your account; we need half-hourly readings for EV Nights and Sunshare Export.
Traditional meters
Send us a reading on the day you switch and once a month after that. Read the numbers left to right and ignore anything after a decimal point or in red. Gas meters measure in cubic metres or cubic feet; we convert to kWh using the calorific value on your bill.
